about

tl;dr - felt cute and made some music

Long Copy:
As a Social Media Expert and introvert, Bandcamp is my platform of choice when it comes to staying connected with friends on the internet. One post a year gives me plenty of opportunity to share some deeper thoughts that might stay hidden in casual conversation.

So here it goes:

I am looking back on a somewhat tiring year, softly locked down, dealing with my own discomfort and problematic behavioral patterns, like the tendency to run away from problems. Pre-pandemic, one way to escape my mind would be to socialize and suppress, trying to recreate the blissfully years of university.
But with nights getting longer in September and mandatory home office, interaction with the outer world came to a halt giving me the opportunity to take a deeper look at my inner workings. Thankfully I was not alone. My partner was always at my side, always encouraging me to open up and share my feelings.

One of the biggest changes during that time was starting a new Job. It came with an incredible Team, a new sense of self-worth, but also a million new ways of doubting myself.

For half a year I stopped making music. I struggled with technical issues, and I was a little afraid. Afraid to continue, to grow and improve, because, what if I invest all that precious time only to realize that I'm not getting better, my Ideas are of no value and my music sucks? So video games became the low risk substitute for a while.

But I set myself a goal. To at least put something out into the world once a year. If not quality, then let it be a sign of life.

The result: Two very different tracks.

Even though I intended to create something purely dark and abrasive, to fit the zeitgeist, the second track turned out to be some trance hybrid.

Also, I didn't really listen to a lot of music in the past year. So instead of current trends as reference points it feels like I recreated music from my memory that I enjoyed a couple of years ago. Maybe another sign of holding on to the past? Maybe next year will, bring something new?

A few final words: To all my friends who I haven't been in touch with, I'm sorry for my passivity. Even before the pandemic I had a hard time reaching out. I love you all!

I wish everyone who has experienced a hard time this past year lots of strength. My thoughts are with you.
